The Reading boys came back from 1-0 down to beat Shrivenham 2-1 this evening. The visitors got the goal in the 29th minute after heading it past Stuart Gosby but the Reading boys levelled the scores just before half time. The second half saw Roddy Slater's men create chances and they were rewarded for their efforts when Andy Gray side footed the ball home late on in the game to make the result 2-1 to the Reading boys.

This report from Andy Timbrell of Shrivenham.
Good to see the contingent from SN6 including Shrivy Lad and the ladies as well - hope you enjoyed yourselves despite the result.

Reading Town 2 Shrivenham 1 Att-107

Shrivenham kicked off their season with a difficult away trip to Reading Town. Shrivy with only 4 players in the starting line up from last year’s team were under the cosh almost immediately, from a reading outfit also fielding basically a new team.
4 minutes in & Reading got their first corner after Shrivy needlessly gave the ball away, but Luke Adams dealt with it at the second attempt. A minute later & a let off, when Reading hit the post after Luke had saved the initial shot.
In the 15th min Shrivy finally threatened when great work by Michael Silvanus crossed deep, Pete Soanes controlled & whipped in a great cross only for Michael Lawson to miss the ball completely with the goal begging.
18 min & a great ball over the top from James Blake to Dan Hall who hit a poor cross into the keeper’s hands.
Reading threatened again on 25 min when Marcus Richardson who’s played at 9 different league clubs & was a thorn in our side all night out jumped Nick McCrae. Richardson flicked it on & Shrivy’s Steve Bunting was slow to react letting the lively Reading winger in, he should have done better than hitting the side netting.
30 min once again fine work from Silvo who tormented the defence beating 4 players, but he had to hold it up for support, when he did knock it in it was cleared for Shrivy’s first corner.
GOAL 31 min, ball was whipped in deep, Anthony Packer then delivered back into the box & Dan Hall half volleyed it into the ground & it looped up over the Reading town keeper.
33 min, Shrivy had their tails up & a Silvo free kick was easily saved from Soane’s header.
GOAL 43min it had been on the cards, a corner was whipped in to Richardson who just missed it & following up behind was Lingwood who half volleyed it into the net.

HT 1-1 Lucky to be still in it

No changes at the start of the second half. 47 min Soane beat’s 3 player’s only to hit a poor cross into keepers hands. 52 min Reading put Shrivy’s defense under more pressure as another shot whistles past Luke’s post.
60 min Hall makes way for Liam Thompson who is straight into the game.
61 min another let off for Shriv as Luke spills a shot & with the goal gaping the Reading blast’s over the bar.
65 min Reading have the ball in the net but the assistant referee’s flag is up, it was close call.
68 min Bunting off Joshua Digby making his first team debut on.
75 min great work by Darren Smart to stay onside, & as he advanced into the area he had 2 Shrivy players unmarked waiting for him to pass!!! Well let’s say it wasn’t a shot & it sure wasn’t a pass, a really good chance missed.
78 min good work by Thomo but his cross was put behind for a shrivy corner, but this was knocked too deep & wasted.
GOAL 88 min. deep cross was knocked down by Richardson which found Gray unmarked & he lashed it home low to Lukes right hand post.
Shrivy kept plugging away all to their credit. I know we didn’t play as well as we could have, but the best team won on the night. There wont be many teams who come to Scours Lane & return with points.

Excellent start to the season for Town and delighted to see early positive sides from the new team. Also great to see an attendance of 107 for a midweek fixture. Lets just hope the team continues to impress and the crowds start showing up at Scours Lane again this season. I myself have earmarked the home game against Kidlington on Tuesday 24th as my first visit to Scours Lane for 2010/11 and may even start a new blog for the new era!

Keep up the good work Town, see you all soon!

Yep just to echo Dans words... first of all it was good to get off to a positive start, so well done to Roddy and the boys and the Barmy Army for the support. Also it's encouraging to see the attendance figure into three figures for the first game of the season with the right results that could improve. Hopefully Koshi will be making his debut in one of the Berkshire derbies and adding a few pennies to the club coffers via the clubhouse!

Out of interest what improvements have been made to the Lane this summer. Have they upgraded the catering facilities and refreshment offerings? Any other developments?
