Reading Town must have wondered why they didn’t get a result from the Milton game yesterday afternoon. The Town had the bulk of the chances in the first half and looked the more likely to score when going forward. The hosts had a few half chances but nothing really that threatening to get Sims stretching. It stayed 0-0 going into the break.
After the interval Milton United put their stamp on the game after taking an advantage of a goalkeeping mistake when a simple back pass saw the keeper stuck in two minds whether to pass it or to pump it up field. In the end it was neither as the ball hit Alex Salmon, the ball was then passed in the middle to stretch the defence and this saw a Milton player run through on goal into the box, where he was taken out by the keeper which saw the referee point to the spot. From the spot the hosts scored to give them a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute. Following on from the Reds had two great chances to get in front but wasted them both. The hosts punished the visitors for not finishing their chances, with a cross/shot in the 68th minute finding it’s way into the net pinging in off the post. With ten minutes to go on the clock and the Town seemingly out of the game Richard Witt popped up with a wonder strike from a long distance free-kick with the ball flying into the left hand corner. Despite the best goal of the game it was in vain with Milton holding on to win 2-1.
